Company Overview

The General Desalination Company was established by Decree No. (924) of 2007 as a Libyan public joint stock company enjoying legal personality and independent financial liability, and is headquartered in the city of Benghazi.

The company’s competencies were organised under its Articles of Association issued by Decision No. (250) of 2009, then amended and reissued by the Council of Ministers Resolution No. (836) of 2013.

The company’s subordination went through several organisational stages, and is currently within the competence of the Ministry of Water Resources.

• Management, operation, maintenance and renovation of desalination plants.
• Conducting technical and economic studies and researches related to water desalination.
• Exchange information and technical expertise with the relevant authorities and institutions.
• Proposing executive policies for the development of the desalination sector.
• Proposing specifications and standards for production and desalination of water.
• Implementation of development projects in the field of desalination.
• Preparing short, medium and long-term strategic plans.
• Carrying out commercial agencies related to the company’s activity in accordance with the legislation in force.
